Assistant Professor, Department of Science, Technology, and Society (STS), Virginia Tech Ashley Shew, MA, MS, PhD, studies the ways in which people think about humanity, bodies, and technology. Trained in philosophy of technology, her interests sit at the intersection of emerging tech, disability studies, and animal studies. Her current research focuses on disabled bodies in technological imagination in contrast with the narratives disabled people actually tell about technology. Dr. Shew is the author of Animal Constructions and Technological Knowledge and co-editor of Spaces for the Future: A Companion to Philosophy of Technology, both released in 2017. She keeps a teaching website on technology and disability at techanddisability.com.
